I started this project with the intention of crocheting another pumpkin beanie, but then changed courses :p
& am so glad that I did!!
I had been wanting to make a crochet pumpkin this fall, but had just not gotten around to it yet.
so here we are, and it turned out so cute!!
I decided to display it in the center of our ottoman for thanksgiving!
see below for all of the supplies and the free crochet pumpkin pattern!

SUPPLIES :
yarn - for the pumpkin, I used yarn bee soft & sleek in tobacco.
& for the stem, I used yarn bee soft & sleek in clay.
crochet hook - susan bates silvalume crochet hooks are my hooks of choice!!
I love how sharp the hook is, I feel like it does a better job of catching the yarn and helps me keep my work tension consistent.
for this project I used the 5mm hook; however, I do feel as though I could have gone with the 4mm and made my work a little bit tighter.

PUMPKIN :
crochet a rectangle using a double crochet ribbed stitch [worked through the back loop] - 30 rows, 30 stitches long.
[side note, a half double crochet ribbed stitch would also be nice!!]
when you finish off your yarn, leave a long tail. you will be using this tail to seam.
now, seam the rectangle into a tube by placing the two short ends of the rectangle together.
cinch one end of the tube closed, add stuffing, then cinch the other end closed.
again, leave a long tail. you will be using this tail to create the ribbing.
now, create the ribbing by *pulling your tail through the center to the other side and wrapping your yarn around the outside.* repeat several times until it starts looking like a pumpkin!
STEM :
row 1 : make a magic circle and single crochet five stitches into the circle.
row 2 : then increase in each stitch until you end up with 10 stitches around.
rows 3 - 7 : single crochet 10 stitches in each row.
when you finish off your yarn, leave a long enough tail to attach the stem to the top of the pumpkin.
stuff your stem & sew it to your pumpkin.
& voilà, now you have yourself the most adorable crochet pumpkin to add to your collection!
